The Nazi looting of European libraries and the fight to recover the literary heritage .

The shelves of Jews, communists, liberal politicians, LGBT rights activists, Catholics, Freemasons and anyone on the long list of enemies of the regime were plundered and the works they contained were wielded as intellectual weapons against their owners. A systematic looting of public and private libraries and bookstores that, throughout occupied Europe, was carried out by German troops in ruthless competition between the different organizations of the Reich, and that is finally documented thanks to the detailed investigation by Anders Rydell, who has already won the Foundation Bengt Janson's Memorial Fund Prize Sweden and was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize in non-fiction. Anders Rydell is a renowned Swedish journalist, editor and non-fiction author. Former head of culture at a major Swedish media group, he has published several books in his career as an author, including Book Thieves , which along with the acclaimed The Looters examines cultural plunder during the Second World War.
