In the society in which we live, it is increasingly common to change homes in a short period of time. Due to these rapid movements, it is very common to be registered in one place and live in another, since many times due to our pace of life or simple laziness we forget to change the registry when renting an apartment . But is not registering where we live legal?
What are the consequences of not registering at the place of residence?
When changing the place of residence, changing the registration is not on the list of priorities, and many citizens when changing their place of residence to another city or autonomous community do not go to the municipal registry to process the registration due to simple laziness.
Being registered in one place and living in another is possible, but it is not legal . The law tells us that all citizens must have the registration certificate at the place of residence or, in the case of living in more than one place, they must do so at the residence where they spend the most time per year. The fact of registering in several municipalities or cities, that is, double registration is illegal and is accompanied by a penalty.

Some disadvantages of not being registered in the place of residence
Limitations on public services
If you have an emergency and must go to your family doctor, you must go to the municipality where you are registered. It is advisable to request a change of doctor when moving to another residence to make your daily life more comfortable.
In the case of public schools, you will lose the possibility of accessing the Chinese Overseas America Number Data list of public schools that are in your area where you have your habitual residence. If you do not appear as a resident, you will not be able to access the school offer registry.
Having a family doctor, having access to public schools and other services presented by city councils or regional governments will no longer be within your reach. Sports centers and libraries are some of the other services to which you will have limited access as you are not registered in the municipality.

Vote where you are registered
This is one of the big drawbacks for many people who are registered in one place and live in another. You will receive your census card at the place of registration , so that the electoral college in which you can exercise your right to vote will take place in the municipality of the census.
It is true that due to the residential movements that we currently have throughout the national territory, it is possible to request a vote by mail . To do this you must carry out a series of procedures: go to the Post Office, request your vote by mail, fill it out and deliver it to a Post Office along with an identity document.
Difficulty deducting rent
When the spring season approaches, all citizens must prepare to file the Income Tax Return. As for tenants, a large part of the autonomous communities give the possibility of deducting the rent in the income tax return. Of course, by being registered in one place and living in another you will be limited in these tax advantages. Some communities such as La Rioja, Murcia and the Balearic Islands do not have this type of deductions in rent.
It is important to remember that these tax benefits can only be applied to rental contracts signed after 2015 . In addition, only tenants who appear in the lease contract will be able to deduct this rent.
