The Polish List of Journals is the main list of journals recommended by Polish scientists for publishing scientific papers. There are five categories of journals, each with a different number of points assigned to journals, from 20 to 200. A strategic approach to choosing a journal from the Polish List is careful planning and analysis of many factors. Which journal is best for publishing an article? We will tell you in this review.

Strategic approach to publications according to Polish List

When choosing a journal for publishing a scientific work, a scientist from Poland should be guided by the following aspects.

Scoring criteria
The Ministry's list of rating journals has point criteria for evaluation. There are 6 thresholds in total, according to which a journal receives 20, 40, 70, 100, 140 and 200 points, respectively, depending on its rating and scientometric indicators. The more points a journal receives, the more prestigious a publication in it is considered. Scientists will receive points in accordance with the rating of the journal in which the article will be published.

Who is eligible for publications with scores ranging from 20 to 100 points?
Journals with scores from 20 to 100 are best suited for young scientists who are just starting their scientific careers. Masters, PhDs, and Habilitated Doctors (Doktor Habilitowany) are recommended to pay special attention to such publications. Such journals have a lower percentage of publication refusals and less stringent requirements for the selection of scientific papers.

Who are journals with high scores - from 140 to 200 - suitable for?
Journals with a score of 140 to 200 points should be chosen by associate on page seo service professors and professors. Publications in high-ranking journals help to strengthen the scientific image and confirm significant experience in research activities. Journals with high scores have stricter selection criteria, but are valued more in scientific circles and contribute to the rapid growth of the researcher's reputation.

Indexing in global scientometric databases (DB)
The international influence of journals indexed by prestigious databases such as Scopus or Web of Science is higher than that of publications that are not peer-reviewed by these platforms. Scopus and WOS are considered the largest and most authoritative scientometric services that contain high-quality scientific content.

If your scientific goal is to increase the visibility and influence of your article, it is better to choose journals for publication that are included in these scientometric platforms and have high citation indices (Impact factor, CiteScore, SNIP, SJR).

Articles published in journals indexed simultaneously in the national Polish List system and the global scientometric database (Scopus or WOS) have a greater chance of being found, read and cited by other scientists, which contributes to the growth of indicators and has a positive impact on the scientist's career.

Examples of publications from the ministerial list that are indexed in Scopus:

Academy of Management Annals (ISSN - 1941-6520)
Academy of Management Journal (ISSN - 0001-4273)
Academy of Management Review (ISSN - 0363-7425)
Examples of journals from the ministry's list that are indexed in the Web of Science:

Accounting Review (ISSN - 0001-4826)
Accounts of Chemical Research (ISSN - 0001-4842)
ACM Computing Surveys (ISSN - 0360-0300)
Subject area
Polish List classifies publications not only by score criteria, but also by scientific disciplines. It is important for a scientist to choose a journal that not only has high scores, but also corresponds to his field of research. Otherwise, the publication may be rejected by reviewers. The best solution is to choose those journals that correspond to your academic field and research topic to increase the chances of publication and get maximum coverage.

Other criteria to consider when choosing a publication for publishing a research article:
university-specific requirements for journal rankings
review and publication deadlines (if it is important for you to publish an article in a short time, choose journals that issue several times a year and offer accelerated review of articles)
grants and other funding: publication in journals with high scores (140 or 200) may be a requirement of funding organizations
requirements for obtaining scientific degrees and academic titles. You can read more about regulatory requirements in Poland in our article .
